Woods dispatch.


In 1844 , the board of directors of the English East India company sent an educational dispatch to the governor general in India. The dispatch came to be known as woods dispatch as it was issued by Charles wood, the president of the board of control in London. 
                       

Q. Why was the new to Western education introduced in  India after Wood's dispatch? What were its drawbacks ?


Ans :   After 1854  woods dispatch the new Western education system was introduced to improve the system of vernacular education. Teachers were asked to improve the standard and of teaching. Best books were introduced in the system of annual examination was also introduced.

New rules where made regarding payment of regular fee , attendance in classes , fixed seating system and discipline. this is location system became a key role for unity among people from different regions, as they found a common language of communication. It is spirit the idea of nationalism, democracy, equality, liberty and scientific temperament.

Drawbacks of new Western education system are :


* The new system was impartical for the children of agriculture family as could not afford to skip working in the field during the harvest time.

* The the new system was too expensive for a  few section of society.

* Institute where set up in the urban areas negtecting  the rural  requirement.

* The number of girls student were is still less than boy.

*The prescribed tests had no practical relation with the students daily lives.
